The Spouses will have dark, brilliant bright eyes and they will like being at home. They will be chaste and pure untouched by any man or jinn. They will all be reclining and sitting on fine carpets and green cushions. In the end of the verse Allah reminds us that blessed is His name – WHICH NAME? AR RAHMAN!!
We are being reminded to not forget where this surah started from.
Apart from being beautiful and shy the spouses will be valuable like the rubies and the corals. Allah then asks us why would the reward of good be anything but good – meaning if we do good and righteous deeds we will be rewarded with an equally excellent reward. The other paradise (the better one) is described now, its way more greener. In this paradise the springs are “gushing” and not just “flowing” it is way more beautiful and intense. These gardens will have all kinds of fruits but pomegranate and date palms are particularly pointed out.
The spouses will be of good character as well. They will be perfect inwardly and outwardly – which is impossible in this world.
Surah Al Waqi’ah is the 56th Surah in the mushaf and is preceded by Ar Rahman.
The Theme of Al Waqi’ah and Ar Rahman is nearly similar but the order of topics is reversed.
Al Waqi’ah occurs in the 27th Juzz or parah of the Qur’an and consists of 96 Verses.
Al Waqi’ah is a Meccan Surah.
BENEFITS : It was narrated from Shujaa’ from Abi Faatimah that ‘Uthmaan ibn ‘Affaan (may Allaah be pleased with him) visited Ibn Mas’ood when he was sick. He said, “What is hurting?” He said, “My sins.” He said, “What do you need?” He said, “The mercy of my Lord.” He said, “Shall we not call the doctor for you?” He said, “The doctor made me ill.” He said, “Shall I order that your regular income [from the state] be restored to you?” He said, “You did not let me have it before today and I have no need of it now.” He said, ‘Then leave it to your family and dependents.” He said, “I have taught them something which, if they say it, they will never become poor. I heard the Messenger of Allaah(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say, ‘Whoever recites al-Waaqi’ah every night will never become poor.” (Narrated by al-Bayhaqi in Shu’ab al-Eemaan, 2/491. This hadeeth was classed as da’eef by Shaykh al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Da’eefah, 289).
Summary of 14 Ayahs
Allah tells us when the day of judgment occurs there will be nothing to reverse it – there will be no going back from this catastrophe!! (May Allah safeguard and protect us – ameen) 3rd Verse needs detailing.. Surah Al Waqi’ah 56 : Verse 3 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]
On that day many things will fall and many things will raise
– The Sun will fall.
– The Mountains will fall, crumble, become dust and get scattered.
– Buildings & high structures will become flat
– The Deep oceans will rise.
– People buried under the earth will rise and come out. The other interpretation is with regards to the status of the people..
– A king high and mighty in this world might be in a low condition on that day.
– Where as a poor beggar who was righteous may be given the status of a king. The powerful, arrogant, unjust and mighty will become powerless and weak and the ones oppressed, denied and humiliated will be honored and raised in ranks.
QURANIC GEM :Qur’an presents to us in many places the imagery of the day of judgement. The believers will be elevated and will be looking down upon the kuffar. The highest rank or station will that be of Prophet Muhammad salallahu aleyhi wasallam – The Quran describes it as “Maqaman Mahmudan – The Station worthy of praise”. REFLECTION :There are many instances when we feel betrayed, when we ask why dint Allah give me justice, where we think “we deserved something” and yet were denied. Some times in life even after doing everything right the blessing doesn’t come and hardship isn’t lifted and this ayah might just be the reason. Because to begin with – this duniya was never the ground for settling scores – akhira is the place of justice where our wages will be paid in full. Denying in this world might just mean that Allah is raising our ranks in the akhira. If something you asked for dint come true dont lose hope and be sure that if your deeds and duas are sincere your ranks are being raised in the akhira inshaAllah
Then we are told how the earth will shake with immense severity, the mountains will crumble down to become dust and get dispersed. The entire humankind on that day will be divided into 3 groups
Those who will be handed their book of deeds in their right hands – the righteous companions and they will be happy.
Those who will be handed their book of deeds in their left hands – the evil ones who will enter hell.
The fore runners – The best and the most righteous group – they will be brought near Allah in the garden of paradise. The fore runners will mostly be from among the first generations and a very few from the latter generations.
Dua tip – Do not make dua to get your books in your right hands – rather make dua that Allah makes you from among the “fore runners on the day of judgement”. May Allah make us from among the fore runners on the day of judgement ameen ya rabbi!!
What is the difference between left hand companions, right hand companions and the fore runners? 1. Left Hand Companions – FAIL! 2. Right Hand Companions – PASS! 3. Sabiqun – The fore runners – A+!! 😀 🙂
Now we are shown hell and we are told this is the hell the disbelievers used to deny and lie about. The disbelievers will be doing “tawaaf = running back and forth” between the scalding water and fire of the hell. Where as those who feared Allah and engaged in much good for them will be 2 gardens full of trees with big branches and a pair of springs flowing. There are 2 kinds of fruits in it. In 2 different flavours. Jannah has all the variety you need and desire. The fruits are within our reach. The believers will be sitting, reclining, relaxing and enjoying on couches made of brocade. There will be maidens for men whose glances will only be for their husbands and who are pure and untouched by any man or jinn.
The 29th Ayah starts with pointing out the entire creation’s sheer dependency on Allah alone! Allah then issues a threat to both the humans and the jinns, that soon their affairs and all that they are doing will be settled. On the Day of Judgment humans and jinns will try to escape but they wont be able to do so. When Jinns try to escape through skies they will be attacked by flames (as a punishment for trying to escape).
The sky will turn blood red in color. There will be no need to question anyone about their sins because it will be shown on their faces.
THE NEXT VERSE(55:41)IS VERY PROFOUND AND VERY SCARY (In a sense very humiliating to think you will be treated so in front of the entire humanity – we need to keep in mind Allah is Al Adl i.e., THE MOST JUST!in His punishment and everything else)
Verse 41 The Mujrimun (polytheists, criminals, sinners, etc.) will be known by their marks (black faces), and they will be seized by their forelocks and their feet. Tafsir Titbit :
We witness in this world that the meat or animals in slaughter houses are held by their heads and feet. The implication is if you decide to live like an animal (without giving thought to your desires and just blindly acting upon them), then on the Day of Judgement you will be treated like an animal. ** Also please notice and internalize that sinners are mentioned who can very much be believers but those who sinned – gives a whole new meaning to repentance and seeking forgiveness in Ramadan **
Jinn were created from fire. Allah is the master of the east and the west. We are made to ponder over and appreciate the rising of the sun, the changing of the seasons. Allah then talks about how two water bodies crash together but do not mix. The sweet and the salt water that is. This shows us how everyone is obeying Allah and how they do not cross the boundaries set by Allah. (A very important point to note here is that prophet Muhamamd salallahu aleyhi wasallam dint go and travel over the sea to witness the above – This is a clear proof against those who say Prophet Muhammad wrote The Qur’an – Allah told him so and he is indeed our creator’s messenger! salallahu aleyhi wasallam)
Allah tells us how pearls come out of both the waters. The visual contrast of this verse and the next is beyond amazing! Allah just informed us that there are pearls resting on the bed of the ocean (very tiny) and now Allah is telling us how ships float over water. SO VISUALIZE THIS! 1. Tiny pearl at the bottom of the ocean. 2. Big, massive, huge and gigantic ships floating over the ocean. Logically what should be sinking and what should be floating?? THE REVERSE! SUBHAN ALLAH!!
After this powerful imagery we are told how everything will cease to exist and how only the face of our lord will remain. By nature, no matter what big things we or others achieve – there is an expiry date – there is a life span – everything will end or die.
1. Steve Jobs.
3. The Twin Towers.
5. Prophet Muhammad!!
This logic and nature of withering away, perishing and dying applies to individuals, civilizations and nations!! And if we reflect further this logic applies even to our statuses – one day people respect us and the other day Allah can totally turn the tables and the very same people who used to love and respect us can become our haters and enemies!
Surah Ar-Rahman means – The Beneficient or The Exceedingly or Unimaginably Merciful.
Surah Ar – Rahman occurs in the 27th Juzz and is numbered 55th Surah in the Mushaf. Surah Ar – Rahman consists of 78 Verses.
There is a dispute among scholars regarding the categorization of Surah Ar-Rahman as Meccan or Medinan Surah.
It consists of a refrain which repeats 31 times. Fabi-ayyi ala – i rabbikuma tukaththibaan So which of the favours of your lord would you deny?
The Surah is organised in the following layout
a) Description of the greatness of the Qur’an.
b) Some of Allah‘s favours to humanity.
d) People who feared punishment of Allah, did good deeds and deserve paradise.
e) Another Paradise.
Ar – Rahman – The Most Gracious / The Most Beneficient / The Most Merciful.
10 Arabic Words Memorized
Khalaqa – He Created.
Bayaan – (the) speech.
Shamsu – Sun.
Qamaru – Moon.
Najmu – Stars.
Shajaru – Trees.
Mizaan – The Balance.
Wazna – The Weight.
Fakhihatun – (is) fruit.
Asfi – Husk.
Ar-Rahman demands us to stop, reflect and think deeply. When we think about this ayah, it is supposed to be a very personal experience, and we need to think about some of the mercies we are enjoying RIGHT NOW!
In the very next verse Allah gives us the example of His ultimate mercy – QUR’AN. Then the creation of humans is mentioned. Logically the order should be 1. Existence – Humans. 2. Purpose – Qur’an. WHY IS THIS REVERSED?!Because the purpose of our creation is more important than our existence. Allah has blessed us with speech. We are told about the sun, the moon and the precision and discipline that they follow. Allah points our direction towards sky and how He subhanahu wa’ta’aala holds it firm above us. And how everything is not allowed to transgress the MIZAAN = BALANCE. Yet we as humans whenever we do something unjust are violating this balance set by Allah.
We are instructed to maintain the balance. Allah has blessed us with this beautiful Earth where fruits, trees, scented herbs and husked grain grows.
THEN WHICH OF THE FAVOURS, MIRACLES, WONDERS, POWERS, GIFTS AND BLESSINGS WILL YOU BOTH (jinn and humans) DENY AND DELIBERATELY BE AGAINST!
Allah tells us He created us from clay, we are being put in our place we are nothing but dust!
